Guys, I am so excited about tomorrow. But the thing is... I'll be in school all day. So I was trying to think of a way I could celebrate without being there the whole time, and I think I've come up with something.

SUPER SLIDE BLOG TOUR Day 1

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, it's one week until SLIDE will be on shelves! And here I am, going crazy ready to count down the days with a super fun blog tour through Teen Book Scene. Each day for the next two weeks I'll be appearing at a different awesome blog and talking about essential things like good books and burritos and purple nail polish. At the end, there will be a contest for a signed copy of SLIDE and some signed bookmarks!

THE LAST ECHO by Kimberly Derting + giveaway

So I know I need to write another playlist blog post (if you haven't entered the iPod Nano contest, you can read about it here), but I read an awesome book this week and I want to talk about it.

I'm sure you've heard of THE BODY FINDER. It's about Violet, a girl who can sense echos on bodies that were left behind by the victims' killers. Using this power, she is able to track down bad guys. The book is AMAZINGLY good, and my favorite parts are the ones written from the killers' points of view.

Anyway, I just got to read the third book in the series, THE LAST ECHO. When I started it, I totally thought it was the end of the series because of the title, but I recently read on Kimberly's blog that it is MOST DEFINITELY NOT the end, and I squeed in happiness!

Guys, this book is so good. Instead of me trying (and failing) to explain the premise, let me quote Goodreads here:

Violet kept her morbid ability to sense dead bodies a secret from everyone except her family and her childhood-best-friend-turned-boyfriend, Jay Heaton. That is until forensic psychologist Sara Priest discovered Violet's talent and invited her to use her gift to track down murderers. Now, as she works with an eclectic group of individuals—including mysterious and dangerously attractive Rafe—it's Violet's job to help those who have been murdered by bringing their killers to justice. When Violet discovers the body of a college girl killed by "the girlfriend collector" she is determined to solve the case. But now the serial killer is on the lookout for a new "relationship" and Violet may have caught his eye....


I think the creepiest part in that blurb is the reference to the killer's "relationships" with his victims. The killer is most definitely psychologically disturbed and honestly believes that the girls he's kidnapping actually return his feelings. *shudder*

The ending was phenomenal. I don't want to spoil anything, but Kimberly nailed this one. It's haunting, creepy, and eerily perfect.

So it's only been a few hours since my last contest ended. Time for a new one, wouldn't you say?

Ha, okay, let me explain. In SLIDE, Vee Bell's mother passed away five years ago. All Vee really has left to remember her is a box of old CDs from the nineties. Vee listens to the music to feel closer to her mom. So I figured it would be cool to share the songs that inspired me while I was writing SLIDE, along with some tidbits about the story and characters and my writing process. I'll share a song every few days for the next month.

During that time, you can enter to win an iPod Nano* + $25 iTunes card by buying a copy of SLIDE and sending a picture of it in your favorite reading spot to jillehathaway at gmail. (Hence the creepy dolls above... I like to read in bed, or in the tub, or... you know... sitting next to the refrigerator so I can easily grab a burrito.) Since SLIDE is already out in Hungary and the UK, readers living in those areas can enter right away. People in the U.S. have two more weeks to wait. But everyone will have an equal chance to win. Okay, so on to Song #1 on my SLIDE playlist: "Alive" by Pearl Jam. As I mentioned, Vee's mom died of pancreatic cancer five years before the story begins. In the book, Vee listens to it while thinking about her mom:

"The song 'Alive' comes on, and my heart trips a little. I lean back against my pillow and listen to the words. I think it's about this kid finding out his father is dead. Even though the kid never knew his father, the death leaves a scar on him. An absence so all-encompassing, it's there even in his happiest moments.

I close my eyes and wish I could tell my mother about my day. I'd tell her I'm worried about Sophie and how there's a new boy who's really kind of hot and how I think Mattie and Amber are up to no good. I'd tell her I miss her. I'd tell her I love her. I'd tell her everything."

Super Slide Prize Pack!

Okay, guys! I've assembled a monster prize pack to give away this week!
