#slideintothemystery and win a signed copy of SLIDE!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH tomorrow is SLIDE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG.

O. M. G.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!

Okay. I think I've pulled myself together.

Nope.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

*deep breaths*

Okay, first of all, I want to give a Super Slide Hug to my Secret Sliders. They've done a phenomenal job of tweeting, Facebooking, blogging, Pinteresting, and MORE to spread the word about Slide. Keep it up, Sliders! I heart you so hard.

Guys, I am so excited about tomorrow. But the thing is... I'll be in school all day. So I was trying to think of a way I could celebrate without being there the whole time, and I think I've come up with something.

Tomorrow I'll be giving away three signed copies of SLIDE on Twitter.

You can enter by using the hashtag #slideintothemystery. I want to know: If you could SLIDE, who would you slide into and why? I'll pop in three times throughout the day to announce the winners. Yes, this is international.

Also, if you happen to be out and about tomorrow and you spy SLIDE somewhere, PLEEEEASE send me pictures! I love them. They make me all warm and glowy inside. Plus, if you send me a picture of YOUR VERY OWN COPY OF SLIDE, you're automatically entered in the iPod Nano + $25 iTunes gift card contest. You can email pictures to jillehathaway at gmail or post them on FB or Twitter (but make sure to link me).

Let me say it again. THANK YOU. Thank you for making my launch week so special. I thought I knew how amazing the YA community was, but right now I am just OVERWHELMED by the awesomeness.

*single tear* *group hug* *burritos for everyone*

SUPER SLIDE BLOG TOUR Day 7

So anyone who has read my blog or gotten the chance to read SLIDE knows that I'm obsessed with bands from the 90s. And Vee kinda likes them, too. Her mom passed away five years ago from pancreatic cancer, and all Vee really has left to remember her by is a box of old CDs. So today I'm going over to Diary of a Book Addict to talk to Amanda about my favorite bands. Check it out!

Oh, and remember, I'll be giving away a signed copy of SLIDE at the end of the book tour on Saturday.

THE LAST ECHO by Kimberly Derting + giveaway

So I know I need to write another playlist blog post (if you haven't entered the iPod Nano contest, you can read about it here), but I read an awesome book this week and I want to talk about it.

I'm sure you've heard of THE BODY FINDER. It's about Violet, a girl who can sense echos on bodies that were left behind by the victims' killers. Using this power, she is able to track down bad guys. The book is AMAZINGLY good, and my favorite parts are the ones written from the killers' points of view.

Anyway, I just got to read the third book in the series, THE LAST ECHO. When I started it, I totally thought it was the end of the series because of the title, but I recently read on Kimberly's blog that it is MOST DEFINITELY NOT the end, and I squeed in happiness!

Guys, this book is so good. Instead of me trying (and failing) to explain the premise, let me quote Goodreads here:

Violet kept her morbid ability to sense dead bodies a secret from everyone except her family and her childhood-best-friend-turned-boyfriend, Jay Heaton. That is until forensic psychologist Sara Priest discovered Violet's talent and invited her to use her gift to track down murderers. Now, as she works with an eclectic group of individuals—including mysterious and dangerously attractive Rafe—it's Violet's job to help those who have been murdered by bringing their killers to justice. When Violet discovers the body of a college girl killed by "the girlfriend collector" she is determined to solve the case. But now the serial killer is on the lookout for a new "relationship" and Violet may have caught his eye....

I think the creepiest part in that blurb is the reference to the killer's "relationships" with his victims. The killer is most definitely psychologically disturbed and honestly believes that the girls he's kidnapping actually return his feelings. *shudder*

The ending was phenomenal. I don't want to spoil anything, but Kimberly nailed this one. It's haunting, creepy, and eerily perfect.

Sound awesome? Wanna buy it RIGHT THIS SECOND? Here are some linkies:

Amazon

Barnes & Noble

Indiebound

I'm also going to give away my ARC because I'll be buying a new, signed copy for my THE BODY FINDER collection when I'm ON TOUR with Kimberly in April. If you want to come see us, we'll be in Chicago, Dayton, and Boston (schedule can be found here).

SLIDE playlist + iPod Nano contest!!!

So it's only been a few hours since my last contest ended. Time for a new one, wouldn't you say?

Let me give you a hint about what the next one will involve:

It all makes sense now, right?

No?

Ha, okay, let me explain. In SLIDE, Vee Bell's mother passed away five years ago. All Vee really has left to remember her is a box of old CDs from the nineties. Vee listens to the music to feel closer to her mom. So I figured it would be cool to share the songs that inspired me while I was writing SLIDE, along with some tidbits about the story and characters and my writing process. I'll share a song every few days for the next month.

During that time, you can enter to win an iPod Nano* + $25 iTunes card by buying a copy of SLIDE and sending a picture of it in your favorite reading spot to jillehathaway at gmail. (Hence the creepy dolls above... I like to read in bed, or in the tub, or... you know... sitting next to the refrigerator so I can easily grab a burrito.) Since SLIDE is already out in Hungary and the UK, readers living in those areas can enter right away. People in the U.S. have two more weeks to wait. But everyone will have an equal chance to win. I'll randomly choose a winner on Saturday, April 7th and post it here. All entrants will receive signed bookmarks! When you send your picture, make sure to include your name and address and a note telling me whether it's okay to post the picture on my blog.

Okay, so on to Song #1 on my SLIDE playlist: "Alive" by Pearl Jam. As I mentioned, Vee's mom died of pancreatic cancer five years before the story begins. In the book, Vee listens to it while thinking about her mom:

"The song 'Alive' comes on, and my heart trips a little. I lean back against my pillow and listen to the words. I think it's about this kid finding out his father is dead. Even though the kid never knew his father, the death leaves a scar on him. An absence so all-encompassing, it's there even in his happiest moments.

I close my eyes and wish I could tell my mother about my day. I'd tell her I'm worried about Sophie and how there's a new boy who's really kind of hot and how I think Mattie and Amber are up to no good. I'd tell her I miss her. I'd tell her I love her. I'd tell her everything."
(Slide, page 32)

You can watch the "Alive" video here.

If you like this song, you can buy it here.

*There are two Nanos in the picture, and I'm going to raffle off the other one at my launch party. So if you're in the Des Moines area, definitely come to the Barnes & Noble on University Avenue on March 31st at 2 p.m. for a chance to win!

I AM FREEEEEEEEEEEEAKING OUT!!!!

From Publishers Weekly (A STARRED REVIEW!!!):

Slide
By Jill Hathaway. Edited by Donna Bray. HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray, $17.99 (256p) ISBN 978-0-06-207790-5

Hathaway debuts with a gripping paranormal thriller that takes the concept of “empathy” to a new level. Whenever high school junior Vee Bell comes in contact with an object another person has touched, she unwillingly “slides” into his or her mind, leaving her own body vulnerable. After she awakens beside the corpse of a cheerleader named Sophie— a friend recently betrayed by Sophie’s younger sister, Mattie—Vee realizes she’s in the body of a killer. Everyone assumes Sophie’s death was a suicide, and Mattie is guilt-ridden. When another cheerleader dies, Vee decides to recognize her ability as a gift and solve the mystery before her sister becomes the next victim. The shifting perspectives—as Vee enters the bodies of her friends, love interest Rollins, and others—give the story an exhilarating momentum and an absorbing, cinematic quality. The interactions between Vee, Mattie, and their withdrawn father are especially well-done, as all three try to remember how to be a family five years after the death of the girls’ mother. An emotionally taut mystery with depth. Ages 14–up. Agent: Sara Davies, Greenhouse Literary Agency. (Apr.)
